Under the guidance and leadership of Bruce T. Furuya, the Cougar Athletic teams are making positive strides in establishing an athletic program that will provide the surrounding high schools a place for the local athletes to continue their careers at the collegiate level. Throughout his career at the community college, Furuya has gained extensive experience throughout the years as he held positions as an Assistant Coach and a Head Coach for both the Men’s and Women’s basketball Programs at various community colleges in California. He was also part of the teaching faculty at Oxnard
College, Monterey Peninsula College, Contra Costa College and the College of Marin. Furuya has gained invaluable experience working as a student athlete counselor for the students at the aforementioned community colleges, as he counseled and prepared the student athletes
for transfer to NCAA Div I, II, III institutions. He also was given the opportunity to be an Assistant Director for Student Services at Hawaii Pacific University. With his extensive experience and daily contact
with the student athlete, Furuya truly believes that with the excellent coaching staff that is currently in place for Women’s Volleyball and
Men’s basketball the Athletic program is progressing towards establishing a well balanced, support system for academic and personal achievements for the student athlete.
